Infections may be intense or consistent, the latter being primarily asymptomatic, except while pregnant when the microorganisms may infect the placenta, causing abortion, stillbirth, and preterm birth. Most of the stillbirths took place in the second as well as very early third trimester. The total contributions of Q fever to stillbirths, as well as the actual geographical circulation of Q fever-associated stillbirths, is unknown. |
