FRESHWATER MOLLUSKS FOUND IN LAGOA DA CABRINHA OF LAGOAS DO NORTE PARK, TERESINA, PIAUÍ, BRAZIL.

Freshwater mollusks can live in many different environments and act in different ways in ecosystems. However, exotic species and intermediate hosts of parasitic helminths are quite common in water collections, especially in regions where environmental conditions favor the development of these species. Based on this, this study provides a list of mollusks from a water collection located in the municipality of Teresina, Piauí. The collections were carried out during the months of September 2020 to May 2021, through active search, in five randomly selected points. A total of 4228 mollusks were collected from the following species: Melanoides tuberculata (Thiaridae) (n = 4,069), Biomphalaria straminea (Planorbidae) (n = 144), Pomacea canaliculata (Ampullariidae) (n = 8) and Physa sp. (Physidae) (n = 7). The data found in this study revealed that M. tuberculata is the most abundant species in the locality, which is native to the African continent and has excellent adaptation to various types of environments. In addition, specimens of B. straminea, which transmit schistosomiasis mansoni, were also found in the locality. Therefore, it appears that the presence of these species in an urban water collection makes this environment prone to environmental imbalances and facilitates the transmission of waterborne diseases.
